Wedding Almonds from Fredlyn Nut Co.
These Jordan almond classics are the perfect "thank you" gift for your wedding guests - and they offer a little historical value too. Each pound is about 125 almonds.
The History of Jordan Almonds
These Jordan Almonds first made their appearance in the 15th Century in Europe, where they were traditionally served with honey-coated nuts and seeds after births and at weddings.
In Italy, only five almonds are served to guests as a way to symbolize the five pillars of a successful marriage for the couple:
Five sugared almonds for each guest to eat
To remind us that life is both bitter and sweet.
Five wishes for the new husband and wife --
Health, wealth, happiness, children, and a long life!
Jordan Almonds are also used in Middle Eastern cultures as aphrodisiacs - which are why they're kept on hand at weddings for the newlyweds (and guests).
Make a Statement with Your Wedding Almonds
Keep the tradition of wedding almonds alive by serving up a small cluster (of five or more) in a tulle tied bag. You can pack them into tiny boxes or even just put them in glass jars for your candy buffet.
